TO DO
When
not relaxing on the beach, there is fishing, golfing, off-roading,
swimming, boating, kayaking, jet skiing and hiking to be enjoyed in
the natural beauty that surrounds San Felipe. Popular day trips
include driving by car or dune buggy to the tiny colony of
Puertecitos, where natural hot springs located within the rocky
tide pools have long attracted visitors and artists, to waterfalls
located at the base of the nearby mountains.
Anytime. The climate is near perfect with a medium annual
temperature of 71! Delightful in spring and fall, hot and dry but
bearable in summer, with temps over 100 from June until September;
pleasant all winter. November's water begins to take on a chill,
but a light wetsuit will keep you comfortable through the winter
months. The summer and fall seas are bath
temperature.
CULTURE SHOCK
None. Credit cards are accepted at most major restaurants and
shops. English is spoken almost everywhere in the main tourist
areas. Dollars are accepted everywhere.
KID-FRIENDLY AND SAFETY
Absolutely. Lots for kids to do in a very safe, small-town environment with the biggest draws being huge beaches, swimming pools and plenty of other kids. On summer weekends, San Felipe is a kid's paradise.
LOCATION
Located 125 miles south of the International border between Calexico, California and Mexicali, Baja California, the primary route to San Felipe is via Mexico's Federal Highway 5. A secondary route exists via Tijuana following Highway 1 south to Ensenada, Highway 3 east to Highway 5 and south from there to San Felipe. The largest major metropolitan area with good airline and transportation connections is San Diego, about 4 hours drive by car northwest of San Felipe.
The city water supply comes from wells about 30 miles south of town and also springs in the mountains. While it is considered safe to drink, it has a high mineral content.
